For the last couple of months, and until the month of May, our Spring Arona Gran Hotel is showing the temporary exhibition of the local artist Juan Antonio Hernández, also known as “El Patron Chico”. Born in La Laguna in 1969, he soon moved with his family to Playa San Juan here in the South where his father owned an ironmongers. He stopped studying very early to start working in the family business as an office clerk, but he preferred to be hands on in the iron welding arena.
He learnt everything he knows today about iron from a great master, his father. This is where his name comes from, the workers used to call his father Master, and he was known as The Young Master “El Patrón Chico”. During the last 20 years he has mainly worked on industrial works, such as grills and gates, but what he really likes is creative work.
In 2008 started his career as an artist encouraged by his close circle of family and friends and was strongly influenced by the nature of the island.
These are only a few of the pieces that are in the temporary exhibition, but should you wish to find out more information about El Patrón Chico, here is his web site
